Connect your mailbox
Updated 2026-10
What you will do
- Connect Gmail or Outlook/Hotmail
- Understand what Sunary stores from detected opportunities
- Reconnect if authorization expires
- Disconnect the mailbox later without deleting your account
Before you connect
Sunary never asks for your email password. You connect through Google or Microsoft.
Supported inboxes: Gmail and Outlook/Hotmail only. If your provider is not one of these, see the FAQ.
You can skip this step during onboarding with Skip for now. The workspace still works. You can connect later from Dashboard or Settings.
Connect mailbox
From Dashboard, when no mailbox is ready, the card is titled Link your mailbox. The text is Connect Gmail or Outlook/Hotmail to sync opportunities from your inbox.
From Settings, the card is titled Email mailbox.
- Choose Connect mailbox.
- When the step says Choose your email provider., pick Gmail or Outlook/Hotmail.
- Approve access in the Google or Microsoft screen.
- Back returns to the previous step. It is disabled while linking is in progress.
On first-run onboarding, Sunary may suggest the same address you used to sign in. You can Connect mailbox, Connect another email, or Skip for now. See Getting started.
What happens after you connect
Sunary scans the connected mailbox in the background. A progress indicator labeled Syncing emails… can show these stages:
- Fetching emails
- Identifying mission offers
- Loading mission details
- Analyzing with AI
- Applying AI results
- Saving results
Emails that are not identified as opportunities are not added to your workspace.
For each detected opportunity, Sunary keeps the sender, subject, message body, and extracted fields such as title, rate, location, and stack. See the FAQ and Privacy Policy for the same facts.
While cards are compared with your CV, you may also see Updating skill matches….
If authorization expires
A dialog titled Mailbox authorization expired explains that access has expired. It names the connected address when Sunary still has it.
- Reconnect my mailbox sends you back to the provider. While it runs, the button reads Redirecting….
- Later closes the dialog. You can reconnect from Settings when you are ready.
Disconnect the mailbox
- Open Settings.
- Open General.
- On the Email mailbox card, choose Disconnect.
The card shows the provider and the connected address before you disconnect.
Disconnecting stops new sync from that inbox. Sunary then stops accessing the mailbox and removes the opportunities and messages that came from that connection. Opportunities you added yourself stay. Your account, profile, and CV stay. Connecting the same address again starts a new scan.
Details are in the Privacy Policy.
Hidden and forced senders
After a mailbox is connected, Settings → General also lists:
- Hidden senders — addresses you hid when an email was not an opportunity. Choose View hidden senders, then Unhide to let that address appear again. Close leaves the list.
- Forced senders — addresses whose incoming mail is always treated as an opportunity. Choose View forced senders, then Remove to stop forcing that address. Close leaves the list.
You add a hidden sender from the opportunity itself. See Add and edit an opportunity.
